The Reaction Registry

Privacy Policy

Overview

The Reaction Registry is committed to protecting the privacy of its users. This statement explains how privacy is protected when our services are used.

About The Information We Collect

The Reaction Registry is dedicated to collecting information that will help analyze the effects of health products. The personal ‘contact’ information collected from users of The Reaction Registry is kept separately from the ‘non-contact’ information provided for medical research.

Contact Information

Contact information is information that identifies a user personally, such as name, address, telephone number and email address. Although this information is required when a reaction is recorded, it is automatically encrypted and separated from the rest of the information given. Personal contact information will not be given, sold or rented to any third party. Contact information may be disclosed in certain jurisdictions if obliged by law by a government regulatory body.

In the event that there is a change in ownership of The Reaction Registry the new owner will be required to handle all contact information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy.

Non-contact Information

Non-contact information is the information for use in biomedical research provided through the web-based forms of The Reaction Registry. Much of the data required is of a personal nature such as age and gender, or illnesses suffered. However this information can only be used anonymously in statistical analysis and can never be identified as being the user's. For example, the same amount of product may have a much stronger effect on a slight person than on a heavy person. Information given here may encourage manufacturers to suggest different dosages to suit different sized people (vets do this for animals). This sort of anonymous information is needed to make these decisions. It is impossible to link an individual person to any  of this work. All non-contact information is anonymized.

Users' non-contact information will be integrated by The Reaction Registry with that of other users and will become part of an ever-growing data resource. This resource, in part or whole, may be provided to authenticated biomedical research organizations or government public health agencies, freely or for sale. All third parties who receive non-contact information must sign an agreement with The Reaction Registry, indicating that they will use the information exclusively for specified biomedical research, and they will not provide any part of it to any other third party in any form.

Other Information Collected

The Reaction Registry will also collect information about the use of this website. Other non-contact identifiable information collected automatically by its servers include:

  • the Internet Protocol address of the user's computer,
  • the date and time this site is accessed,
  • the type of browser and platform used and the pages and images viewed on The Reaction Registry website.

The Reaction Registry uses this information for quality control. It does not link this information with any of the contact information. Although this information is recorded, it is used only for aggregate statistical analysis. It helps in the decision of how to arrange the pages in the website and the types of browsers and platforms that need to be supported (e.g. Firefox, Netscape or Internet Explorer).

Cookies

The Reaction Registry may set and access cookies on the user's computer.

Security

Users' accounts with The Reaction Registry are password protected for privacy and security. The Reaction Registry uses the latest security measures to ensure that all the information passing through its website, and the information it retains on file, are secure from catastrophic loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying or modification. These measures include appropriate firewalls and fraud controls.

Links to Third Party Sites

The Reaction Registry has links to third party sites. This policy does not apply to third party activities and we suggest that you contact them directly in the event that you have any queries about their Privacy Policies or Codes of Behaviour. However, third parties will not receive any contact information from The Reaction Registry. Any non-contact information they may receive will be safeguarded by contract with The Reaction Registry.

The Reaction Registry reserves the right to update the privacy policy at any time without notice to the user. Any change or discontinuance will legally bind the user from the time when the reaction registry publishes an updated version of the privacy policy on the web site. It is the user's sole responsibility, and it is not the reaction registry's responsibility whatsoever, to ensure that the user is up-to-date on the most current version of the privacy policy.
